the $5 plan (and cake)

Today was the first test of the $5 plan. The plan is to keep me on schedule, and it works like this. If I don’t meet a deadline, I have to pay planbreaker $5. c… is (literally) sweetening the deal by promising me flourless chocolate cake upon completion of my next major deadline. Appeals to frugality AND my love of chocolate. You guys are awesomely clever.

hey! I have deadlines too. Can I have some cake?

And let’s not forget– you can also stand to make some money with our agreement. I’ll owe you $5 if I don’t meet my goals this week.

Excellent. I wasn’t sure if you were doing the money part of it, or just depending on your natural fortitude. ;)

yes, planbreaker, you can have cake too. Just, maybe you two should align your next deadline so that i’m not missing all my deadlines because i’m making flourless chocolate cake for other people who made their deadlines.

c… I’ll share my cake with planbreaker. And no worries if you don’t have time — I’ll still feed you guys some brats.

Because I’m a Californian, every time I see the word ‘brat,’ I think of misbehaving children. . . so it was funny to think of you feeding c. . . and planbreaker brats.

So. . . will there be chocolate cake, or should I plan on having planbreaker take me out for coffee tomorrow?

I apologize for bringing up the cake, which really originated in an alternative reality where I promised to invite c… and Anna over and cook them brats, because that’s within my skill set, and something they will both eat. Initially, I was also supposed to be the one making the cake, which was inspired by my latest issue of Gourmet magazine (the irony of which, alongside the whole brats thing, is not lost on me).

There will be cake, prettytypewriters, you can’t possibly get out of finishing your chapter on time by being excessively polite and Minnesotan!
I’m still expecting my brats (brahts, EB, I get enough of the other sort on Tuesdays and Thursdays and would find eating them a little awkward), and am happy to provide a sweet little incentive to those who need it. EB, I’ll try to figure out some passed the defense now having to add a chapter appropriate treat …

I am right now picturing giant, undergraduate-sized hotdog buns. Actually, those would probably be nice for napping in the hallway between classes.
