i can see again.
Tuesday, November 28th, 2006My new glasses came in today, so after a long-ish wait in the waiting area (with *Highlights* and a large print version of *Reader’s Digest* as the reading options), I got fitted and sent on my way. The glasses replace my previous ones, which fell out of my coat when I was riding home from rhetoric reading group. My hypothesis is that, as I was talking to PB, I accidentally stuck them in my armpit. (My coat has the armpits that zip open, which is great for biking and stuff, but I occasionally find myself missing my pocket and sticking gloves in the zip-open armpit.)
The loss was pretty frustrating (the glasses were barely a year old), but hardly surprising: in junior high my math teacher gave us all personalized certificates at the end of the year, and I got the “Lost or Broken Glasses Award.” On more than one occasion I had had to ask if I could move my desk to the front of the room so that I could see the chalkboard because I had misplaced my glasses (or lost them in the disaster that wask my locker). Hey, at least I was proactive.
Anyway, after trying on many frames, and enlisting the help of some very patient people for second (and third and fourth and fifth) opinions, I ended up getting . . . the same frames I had before. I just liked them the best. I initially thought that I would get some funkier ones this time, but, well, you don’t need to know me for very long to discern that I’m not very funky. Or at least my funkiness doesn’t express itself through my eyewear.
